What Is the Right Time to Start IIT-JEE Preparation?

IIT JEE is the most sought-after entrance exam for engineering aspirants in India. Clearing JEE qualifies students to get admission to the most prestigious technological institutes like IITs, NITs and IIITs. The critical judgments for students and parents regarding JEE preparation are – When to begin preparing for JEE? From which class to start JEE preparation? How to prepare to crack JEE in one attempt? Here, we have provided answers to all these types of questions and explained logically what is the right time for students to start IIT JEE preparation.

Typically, two years of preparation is enough to crack JEE if the practise is done very seriously. Suppose to write JEE Main in 2023; students must have started their preparation from January 2021 since JEE Main exam date in 2023 is given by the NTA as January 24, 25, 27, 28, 29, 30, 31, 2023 (as per the initial notification released). That means two years of adequate preparation is enough to get good marks in the JEE Main and quality for the next phase of IIT JEE, i.e., JEE Advanced, since candidates who are in the top 2.5 lakhs in JEE Main will get qualified for JEE Advanced. However, many students start their JEE preparation as early as possible, i.e., from Class 9. Also, some students prepare for one year for JEE.

Students should stop doing anything and everything that accomplishes not aligns with the goal, i.e., cracking the JEE! Cracking JEE in one attempt is not a big challenge, as studying the concepts prescribed in the JEE syllabus and solving multiple questions to become skilled in a topic is not the biggest challenge. The biggest challenge is dedicating your entire JEE preparation phase to self-improvement and staying focused during the preparation. With an effective preparation strategy, students can crack IIT JEE in one or two years of time. However, students who started their preparation during Class 9 or Class 10 will have enough time to prepare and fewer chances of losing the rank in the top 2,50,000 in JEE Main. That means they can easily qualify for the second phase.

Once JEE Main is cleared, students must focus on the next phase, which is JEE Advanced. The difficulty level of questions in JEE Advanced is usually high compared to JEE Main. Thus, students should gain in-depth knowledge of all the JEE concepts. Students preparing for JEE 2023 must speed up their preparation since JEE Advanced 2023 exam date is June 04, 2023. As the exam date is approaching, candidates should spend more time for the preparation, revision and attempting multiple mock tests.

It’s good to register for JEE coaching as soon as they start the 11th Class to clear IIT JEE. When students join Class 11, there is a considerable gap between the level of concepts of Class 10 and Class 11, which has to be filled. Students who join JEE coaching get good support from teachers, making it slightly easier for them to crack IIT JEE. There are several benefits of starting the JEE preparation immediately after completing Class 10. This will help students in longer consistent practice, with no backlogs in academics, no hustling to finish the JEE syllabus, and enough time to solve more numericals and make better chapter-wise maintained notes which will be suitable for revision.
